Dating Social Networks and Human Behavior, this is the title of the ebook we have written about dating social networks, both heterosexual and gay.
I worked in Berlin at studivz.net, and from there we used dating networks to meet new users; for 6 months we were very active “heavy users” of dating social networks. During that time, we realized that the people within them were very active and some companies were starting to invest in advertising on them. Since then, I realized that these social networks are a very powerful space for bringing people together.
What did I want to analyze in this ebook?
To provide a “sociological” approach to the daily behavior I have observed on the dating social networks included in the study: MeeticAffinity, Match, Ashley, VictoriaMilan, C-date, Badoo, Gleeden, and Sexyono.
*Be careful with Meetic and the automatic subscription scam
Do we all want to be on them?
Absolutely not; in fact, there are those who detest them, because we all have a public, private, and intimate life, and a VERY secret part… not always known or imagined.
Research
After 4 months of researching the aforementioned networks, interacting with users daily for a minimum of 2 hours a day, with an average of 10 users per network… It is no small feat… here are some conclusions:
1) Be careful with what you publish, especially regarding personal and even professional reputation; if we are not careful with 2 very important criteria (legality and IT security)… we are exposed.
- Some websites share databases; they are usually companies operating under another name.
- There are many fake profiles used to hook people and better stimulate the community.
- On dating networks like Ashley Madison, when you talk to people in relationships, they confess that they haven’t actually met anyone, but they have “cyber-flirted“; on the other hand, on Badoo, there are many “fleeting relationships.”
- Many email alerts are not real; they may be from inactive users.
- On C-date and Badoo, the number of emails you receive is directly proportional to the number of times you log in. If you stop logging in, the emails stop arriving. It must be that they detect you entering and suddenly the community welcomes you. If, however, you stay online for a few days, your “popularity” level drops sharply.
- Married users on Ashley Madison tend to switch networks as soon as they find out that Victoria Milan is free.
- On websites where some users pay and women do not, some misinterpret this and treat women very badly. It seems that paying gives them that right.
- People sometimes behave like fools; they either have a profile photo of their face or they put it in a private showcase for which they give you the key as soon as you ask for it, without knowing you at all.
- I have encountered friends’ boyfriends or acquaintances in relationships… and it is a problem… because you almost have a moral obligation to say something…
- After 4 months, you realize that it is almost always the same people on all the websites; either they get bored or none of them work 100%.
