This morning, a new profession came to my attention: digital forensics. It’s fascinating. I was referred to Forest Partners, a professional services firm specializing in financial/legal advice for companies in crisis and/or corporate disputes/litigation.
In English, computer forensics.
They offer 3 types of services:
Forensic, based on Litigation Support, Expert Evidence, Arbitrations, Mediation, Independent Expert Reports, Price Adjustments in Transactions, Investigations, and Insolvency Administrations.
Restructuring, Efficiency Improvement, Turnaround, Working Capital Management Improvement, Financial Restructuring, CRO and Interim Management, Staff Restructuring, Insolvency Advice, Liquidations, orderly closures, and delocalizations…
Transaction Advisory, the part that undoubtedly interests me the most. In the context of transaction advisory, Forest Partners applies a predominantly pragmatic approach
to deliver a useful final product that serves as a basis for decision-making, not merely to fulfill a requirement; they have versatile and experienced professionals.
These types of activities are developed for forensic practice in judicial or dispute environments (expert evidence, arbitrations, mediations, investigations, insolvencies, etc.), for corporate, operational, and financial crises and restructurings, as well as transactions (assistance in company sales, valuations, due diligence processes, etc.).
Digital forensics lies between data recovery and legality, analyzing cybercrimes worldwide, which have grown exponentially. It can analyze not only fraud on a financial portal, money laundering, and industrial secret theft, but also kidnapping, child pornography… these are just a few cases. The investigation is the most interesting aspect from a technical point of view, but the applications are what I find most engaging and fascinating.
We will keep track of them.
