Facebook, the Google for people

This afternoon, laid up on the sofa with a summer flu, I started channel surfing through the multitude of channels offered by DTT and found Alejandro Maldonado, yogarespiraprofundo.

He is a yoga master from Mexico City who teaches his classes to television viewers and YouTubers. I think it’s a perfect decision, reaching many more people. The thing is, in addition to giving yoga classes, he also gives life lessons. Today’s topic was the concept of assertiveness: assertiveness differs from and lies at an intermediate point between two other polar behaviors: aggression and passivity (or non-assertiveness). It is usually defined as a mature communicative behavior in which the person neither attacks nor submits to the will of others, but rather expresses their convictions and defends their rights. It is a conscious, congruent, clear, direct, and balanced form of expression, whose purpose is to communicate our ideas and feelings or defend our legitimate rights without the intention of hurting or harming, acting from an inner state of self-confidence, instead of the limiting emotionality typical of anxiety, guilt, or anger.

And after receiving his class, in addition to discussing the concept of assertiveness, he commented on the phrase of the week, a truly excellent one, by the way, partly from Mark Twain and partly from him: “Man is the only animal that eats without being hungry, speaks without having anything to say, and stresses without knowing how to relax.”

For psychology professionals or enthusiasts, this might seem lacking in substance, but as a complement to a yoga class, I find it enriching; at least you leave thinking about it.

After his video on TV, the first thing I did was take a shower, because it was like 4 classes in 1, and immediately I set out to search for his professional page on Facebook, and… of course, there it was, Alejandro Maldonado, yoga teacher. He has few fans, about 822, but I kept investigating and he also has his own website, not updated, on WordPress, and some videos, even his YouTube channel, which is perhaps better maintained.

Therefore, I reaffirm, Facebook is a Google of people, personalities, professionals, and so on; it never fails.
