This may have happened to you at some point: Instagram has disabled your account.
The most common reasons why Instagram may disable your Instagram account are:
- A user or a group of users (haters?) has reported your account.
- During the initial review carried out by Instagram’s artificial intelligence tool of your profile, Instagram detects some type of content—videos, photos, etc.—that violates the platform’s rules.
If both situations occur together, it is very likely that your account will be disabled.
But what types of content can lead to this disablement? Selva Orejón, Director of onBRANDING, explains it in this video:
Sometimes this disablement may last a few hours or days, and in some cases it may be permanent.
The disablement of your Instagram account may affect certain features: for a period of time, it will not allow you to follow other users, upload content, comment, or interact with other users.
Recommendations to protect your Instagram account:
- Make a periodic backup of all your Instagram content: to do so, go to Settings/Security/Download Data.
- Identify your Instagram user ID. It is important to always have it to hand. In this article, we explain how to obtain it: How to find out your Instagram account ID
- To reinstate your account and carry out the relevant steps, Instagram will ask you for:
- Username,
- User ID (which is why point 2 is important),
- Email address associated with your Instagram account,
- Password
4. Do not pay attention to DMs (direct messages) from fake Instagram accounts. If you receive messages saying they are going to report you for copyright, that they want to verify your account, etc., ignore them. Instagram does not communicate with users via Direct Messages.
5. Enable two-factor authentication.
Finally, it should be noted that not all accounts can be recovered. If Instagram’s checks determine that your account violates the platform’s rules, it cannot be recovered.
