This morning we read the report published in El País in the section: REPORT: Life & Arts, with the headline “From God to Buffoon in One Click”

The content of this report is excellent not only for its substance but also for the trend it highlights, which is increasingly shared by a growing number of communication managers and corporate PR directors.

Online reputation is on the rise – The Web is buzzing with rumors and companies are hiring consultants to clear their names

This report was published by Miguel Calzada and Santiago Gimeno; many thanks to both.

Here we want to share not only the official source but also some incredible examples of “Insults ‘made in’ Google”

– The Google search engine offers an autocomplete option for search terms based on the most frequent queries. Thus, when entering the names of certain public figures, there is no shortage of surprises. Is this an attack on reputation or simply the result of an algorithm?

– José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Prime Minister. Google associates him with “Mr. Bean”, “Pinocchio”, and “Freemason”.

– Mariano Rajoy, President of the People’s Party. The search engine suggests “homosexual” when typing his name.

– Benedict XVI. Notable suggestions include “Nazi” and “Opus Dei”.

– Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran, is a “Jew” and Benjamin Netanyahu, his Israeli counterpart, is linked to the word “Inquisition”.

– Kim Jong-il, dictator of North Korea, sees his name accompanied by the combination “blood of virgins”.

– Lady Gaga, pop diva, “is a man” and Michael Jackson, who passed away in June 2009, “is alive”.

In this report, they pointed to one of my favorite contemporary writers on online reputation, Andy Beal; he has recently published a book I am currently reading, Radically Transparent: Monitoring and Managing Reputations Online. You may know him as the CEO and founder of Trackur.

A spectacular find today, CONGRATULATIONS WITHOUT A DOUBT…
