To mark March 8th, the RTVE content program GEN PLAYZ organized a discussion to address the harassment of women on social networks. According to a study commissioned by the Women’s Institute, 80% of women admit to having suffered harassment on social networks at some point in their lives.
Selva Orejón discusses the profile of harassers and notes that sometimes organized campaigns are created with opinion leaders behind them who have significant reach; they will never ask for it openly, but behind the scenes, they incite their followers to harass. She also highlighted that some companies conduct cancellation campaigns.
Selva insisted that social platforms are not doing enough, particularly regarding the task of protecting minors.
