The pandemic has led to an increase in practices such as sexting, which involves sending sexual messages or photos via mobile phone. Cybersecurity experts advise deleting photos periodically and monitoring the settings of the phone or the applications used. In chapter 36 of La revolución sexual, the RAC+1 podcast, digital identity and cybersecurity expert Selva Orejón warns that most victims of sextortion were unaware of the risks that sexting can entail.

One of the tips provided by Selva Orejón is that… “If we engage in sexting, it should be with people we trust and where we know their conception of their own privacy and that of others.”

She also advises that “…Selva Orejón recommends using applications that have a function to delete messages or images immediately after sending them. This can be done with ‘practically all of them,’ such as through WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, or Wickr. It is also interesting, moreover, for the application to have a screenshot alert function; that is, it notifies us if the person to whom we have sent the direct message takes one. ‘Telegram has this function: although it cannot prevent them from taking the screenshot, it notifies you.'”
