Selva Orejón: “Stolen social media accounts have a market on the black market.” We are all on social media, whether on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok. We often send WhatsApp messages instead of making a call, and we send personal documentation via email. This, however, carries risks, and one is having our accounts stolen and our identity impersonated. Today we spoke with journalist Carles Quílez and Selva Orejón, a social media security specialist who protects her clients’ social profiles on networks. Orejón discussed whether these profile thefts are common; how she recovered Cayetana Guillén-Cuervo’s account; what benefits criminals gain from these profiles, and how accounts are stolen.
