[Selva Orejón, Chief Executive Officer of OnBranding and digital identity expert: “The main problem we encounter is that on one hand, IDs are very often forged, and on the other, it is extremely easy to search online for fake numbers or real names associated with an ID number. If we are talking about the physical document, it is somewhat different, but we also encounter cases of minors using their parents’, siblings’, or relatives’ documents, just as in the past when someone wanted to enter a nightclub, they would ask an acquaintance who looked similar for their ID”.]
Selva Orejón also notes that today there are already cryptocurrency and gaming platforms using biometric patterns, as some banks do: “This seems quite interesting to me, but on the other hand, we must consider that sending a photograph with or without our ID has both benefits and disadvantages. With deepfakes, it is already possible to send these manipulated photographs, which would obviously violate the platforms’ participation rules. This is different from committing an illegal act, although if someone’s identity is actually impersonated, that would indeed be occurring,” she concludes.
