Users are not protected because no one has told them – DIARI DE GIRONA

On November 30, Selva Orejón will participate as a speaker at the event “How to prevent a cyberattack?” A session organized by Diari de Girona and Prensa Ibérica in collaboration with Icatel Network, Brontobyte Cloud, and ENTI School of Interactive New Technologies.

Selva Orejón, in an interview with Diari de Girona, attempted to answer several questions such as: How can you easily detect a fraud attempt involving identity theft? Selva clarifies:…”Providing a simple answer is impossible. For example, if we receive a call from a phone number identified as a banking institution (BBVA, Santander…), we must hang up and call our institution’s number ourselves, but never accept the call directly. We could be falling victim to identity theft. Another case: if we receive an SMS stating your account has been accessed from the location… here we could be victims of SMShing, and if it also contains a link, be careful! We could be downloading a Trojan that takes control of our contacts, mirrors our banking application, intercepts SMS messages, and could drain our bank account in a short time…”

Other questions answered in the interview were:

  • One of the main security challenges for companies is preventing brand impersonation. Are they preventable?
  • Typically, with phishing scams, users are blamed for falling into the trap. Is it always their fault?
  • What is the most “sophisticated” phishing or impersonation scam case you have encountered?
