Saturn and the tocomocho scam: greed corrupts them. I was already furious about the issue we had with PC City when I read something similar; someone buys at Saturn and encounters the Tocomocho scam… it seems companies just don’t learn…
I am transcribing Ignacio’s case…
Monday, January 29, 2007 – THE TOCOMOCHO SCAM
And I fear it is not the first time they have tried it.
I am going to tell you my story and how the claim is progressing; perhaps it will prevent the same thing from happening to you.

On Tuesday, January 30, I am going on a trip, and on Saturday I had the wonderful idea of buying a portable hard drive.
I went down to the Plenilunio Shopping Center and entered SATURN, and after the appropriate comparisons, I chose a 2.5″ 160 GB portable hard drive. €160.
I took it, went to the checkout, they removed the alarm seal, I paid for it, and I left.
Normal, right? Does anyone demand that they check the contents of the box before leaving the premises? BIG MISTAKE, as you will see.
On Saturday I left it at home and didn’t test it. On Sunday I connected it and started the download. I prepared the music, games, and movies I was going to take on the trip… MEMORY FULL!!!!! the disk said. Impossible, there are no more than 4 movies… let’s see… properties… 3GB!!!!!
The disk only has 3GB!!!!
Impossible, I’m going to format it again… it only has 3GB… what a frustration.
Sunday passed, and on Monday after work (you have to work hard to buy a €160 disk), I went to SATURN and explained my problem to them.
1.- The response surprised me, because they weren’t surprised. It seemed like something normal.
2.- They took my disk, went into the office, and when they came out, they told me the disk was 3GB. They broke the warranty seals and opened it. Evidently, there was a 3 GB disk inside.
And with total audacity, after having broken the seals without even showing them to me first, they told me that I had tampered with the disk because the seals were damaged and that they could not exchange it for me.
3.- I told them to call the manager because I was going to file a complaint, and with a smirk, they called the manager: “There’s another 3GB disk here that he wants to exchange for another one. Can you come over?… yes, yes, I already told him it’s not possible to exchange it, but he insists on filing a complaint…”
4.- The manager arrived, fed up with dealing with complaints—I believe they don’t sell anything in good condition (I had to wait in a 30-minute queue until I was served)—and half-laughing, half-seriously, she said a phrase that evidently was not the first time she had said it.
“The seal has been tampered with; no return is possible.”
The complaint was filed; I will inform you of the result, but I have very little hope.
I insist on what never ceases to amaze me… What I admire most is that there is no one from Saturn dedicated to handling online complaints, because simply by scanning open spaces, they would have work for at least a year!!!
Anyway, I hope customer services change for the better, because what a rip-off!
