PRISM: what is this program really and what has it been used for?
PRISM is one of the electronic surveillance programs, which until a few days ago was top secret, commanded by the USA National Security Agency NSA, created in 2007.
What is it for? It serves as a form of in-depth surveillance of communications and other forms of information
between citizens and companies. It should be noted that all communications from most users in the world pass through the USA, so… obviously it is not just for USA citizens.
Although they call it the National Security Agency, the national part doesn’t stop there; it also includes foreigners, as well as US citizens who have maintained contact with people living outside the country’s borders.
What data can they intercept, observe, and find?
Emails (any Microsoft mail server), video (for example from YouTube, Google Videos), voice chat (for example Skype), photos (Google Images and vertical image networks), IP addresses, login notifications (Apple), file transfers (in the cloud “Dropbox, Drive… and outside of it”) or profiles and pages on social networks (Facebook “as a fact, the former security director of Facebook has moved to the NSA), Twitter “has spoken out very strongly saying that they have not yielded anything…)
PRISM and Snowden: what is the relationship?
Edward Snowden, former CIA spy and NSA technology consultant, revealed the pressure the USA government was exerting on the telecommunications company Verizon to provide the NSA with all its customers’ call records.
But does the war start here or has it been going on for a while… let’s see, now Snowden is theoretically at Moscow Airport, waiting to be transferred to Ecuador?
Evidently we cannot know much more than what the media tells us, which is obviously highly filtered by the governments themselves, but a war does not start out of nowhere, especially what is being called a Cold War, something that has been brewing for months and years.
