The Spanish Royal Household has suddenly launched its new online communication platform in a very strategic manner. A few weeks ago, we published that it was unfortunate they had not launched it earlier, not only because of the Urdangarín issue or the King’s Elephant incident… or perhaps precisely because of those, we needed them to have a more corporate and immediate online voice.
70% of European Royal Households are active on social media with active participation from their Communications Offices, but let us analyze the website content:
There is one aspect that has left me in shock out of empathy: it is available in Spanish, English, and Catalan, and then a section for co-official languages (Català, Euskera, Galego, Valencià) in alphabetical order and each in its own language—a nice touch.
The summarized content is as follows:
- –
- –
- –
- A presentation Home page, the homepage, and then the different menus display:
- The Royal Family
- Multimedia Archive
- Press Area
- Royal Household SEO
- They do not meet the most basic requirements, for example…
The URLs surprised me a bit… http://www.casareal.es/ES/FamiliaReal/rey/Paginas/subhome_rey.aspx, they could have been better optimized to be honest.
- The images are saved with the following titles: Casa de Su Majestad el Rey de España – S.M. el Rey Don Juan Carlos (without hyphens… and honestly quite a long title for an image, but okay, at least we do not find a header…. or a photo 1…)
- Or not… I spoke too soon… I find in Activities… 20120906_phe_1
- Spanish Royal Household on Social Media
- There is simply no presence on them, well we will not count RSS as social media, right? No.
- So, they do not join the other royal households. We search on one of the main platforms, Facebook, and this appears…
- On Twitter there is no “royal” or official presence either. On Royal Household on Twitter we do see there is a presence but with a user account with very few followers, dedicated to replicating press releases…
- Well, what conclusion do we draw from this new website? It is still almost 1.0, in philosophy of course, 0 social, in fact in contact there is not even an email address…
- In summary, the assessment is that we have a new website but with a 1.0 mentality (we speak, you listen) and we do not collect comments. But generally evolved, now the next part would be… We are more accessible, yes we do take you into account…
