Telegram: the secure WhatsApp? This is how those who discuss this app refer to it when highlighting the benefits of downloading it; furthermore, it is a desktop application, a feature many had missed with WhatsApp.

We will only mention one figure: $200,000 is what the company pays to anyone capable of cracking #Telegram‘s encryption: http://telegram.org/crypto_contest

What makes Telegram different from WhatsApp or other instant messaging services such as SpotBros, Line…?

  • Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram is cloud-based and heavily encrypted. As a result, you can access messages from multiple devices (including desktop computers) and share an unlimited number of photos, videos, and documents (doc, zip, mp3, etc.). Thanks to its multi-data center infrastructure and encryption, Telegram is faster and more secure. Additionally, Telegram is free.
  • Private: they describe themselves as a private messenger and chat service; Telegram, as of today (February 4, 2014), features heavily encrypted messages that self-destruct.
  • It is cloud-based; Telegram allows us to access messages from multiple devices.
  • It is Fast; Telegram sends messages faster than any other application.
  • Servers are distributed worldwide to further guarantee security and speed.
  • It is Free and free forever. There are no advertisements or subscription fees.
    • Which leads us to wonder…
      • How are they funded?
  • Who is behind it?
    • Telegram is supported by Pavel and Nikolai Durov, of Digital Fortress LLC. They also founded VKontakte (the Russian Facebook, which uses the same type of graphics as Telegram), the largest European social network. Pavel supports Telegram financially and ideologically, while Nikolai’s contribution is technological. To make Telegram possible, Nikolai developed a unique custom data protocol that is open, secure, and optimized for working with multiple data centers.
  • Powerful: it has no limits on the size of media and chats.
It is worth noting that we are big fans of the user communication Telegram conducts on social networks, for example via its Twitter account
