VI ISACA Barcelona Congress: Value and Assured Management 2017 ‘Impact of New Trends in the Digital Society Era: Blockchain, Big Data, Cybersecurity, GDPR’
This October 24, we held our VI Congress dedicated to the ‘Impact of New Trends in the Digital Society Era: Blockchain, Big Data, Cybersecurity, GDPR…’. The chosen venue for the event was Citilab in Cornellà, where some of these trends are already taking place, and through which the beneficial effect of these trends on the local community is intended to be enhanced.
The Congress, attended by over 170 prominent delegates, senior executives from leading companies, and a large number of public sector institutions, was sponsored by Deloitte, Auren, Prosegur, Vintegris, OptimumTIC, Andornet, and BNFIX.
Indeed, we are at a crucial moment where ISACA plays a relevant role. For this reason, we featured top-level speakers who enlightened us on these trends.
Thus, Selva Orejón, Executive Director of onBRANDING, referred to the new ‘Digital Exposure Scenarios’, such as social networks or the use of apps and digital services. Our digital lives unfold in all of them, leaving a footprint that can later affect our reputation or that of the company or entity we work for.
Manel Carpio, Deloitte partner, and Javier Sánchez, IT Risk, Control & Reporting Director at Banc Sabadell, offered us an interesting study and their practical vision on the importance of ‘Third-Party IT Risk Management in a Highly Regulated Context’. In this digital society, where the links in contracting chains are multiplying, a security breach in one of these links impacts the contracting company, which assumes responsibilities. Therefore, managing the risks of these third parties is essential.
Pablo Ballarín from Balusian, took us to the future with his presentation ‘Prometheus in Cyberspace or What Cybersecurity Should Be Like in the Future’. In this future, the human body will be able to use technology for practically all its functions, becoming almost immortal beings, but if security does not accompany this evolution, they will also be vulnerable to attacks.
From this futuristic vision, full of incredible technologies like nanorobotics or DNA editing techniques, we returned to reality with the presentation by José Luis Colom, Technical Director of AUDERTIS Audit Services, ‘Integrating ISO 27001 or ENS with GDPR’. GDPR gives us greater flexibility when adopting security measures, making it advisable to use one of these methodologies and integrate it with GDPR compliance. And to face technological challenges, what do we need?
The debate panel ‘The Digital Age: New Professionals’, moderated by Josep Cañabate, Secretary of ISACA Barcelona, featured Carme Sánchez Ors, Corporate Data Protection Manager at DIBA, Laura Nieto, Compliance Department at Crèdit Andorrà, Albert Forn, Associate Director at GSMA, mSchools, and Xavier Pi, Industry 4.0 Commission.
All of them offered an interesting debate that highlighted, more than the emergence of new professionals, the need for new skills that are not yet reflected in the educational system. Therefore, both digital natives and professionals who must undergo a metamorphosis to adapt to this new environment must make an effort to train, learn, and evolve.
Ramsés Gallego, Past President of ISACA Barcelona, offered us an interesting vision of ‘Blockchain… or how to change the rules of the game’, highlighting the great impact that Blockchain can have on the way we do things, completely digitizing business models and getting ahead of the legislator.
Álvaro Prieto, Senior Manager at Deloitte, demonstrated the vulnerabilities of something as vital for many companies as POS terminals with his presentation ‘Inside TPV PoS: secrets, threats, and solutions. Examples of cyberattacks on Point of Sale Terminals’.
Esmeralda Saracíbar, from the Data Privacy Institute and ISMS, explained the ‘Code of Good Practices in Data Protection for Big Data Projects’, which offers guidelines for Big Data to coexist with data protection. For the first time at our Congress, these presentations were complemented by two workshops titled ‘COBIT Business Game’ and ‘GDPR: A Child’s Play’, through which we offered a gamification approach to help raise awareness and understanding of extremely complex standards and regulations.
We hope you enjoyed the Congress, which was presented and closed by our president Joan Barceló, and where Joaquim Altafaja, Vice President of ISACA Barcelona, acted as master of ceremonies. The entire board of ISACA Barcelona and our manager Carles Mateu wanted to reflect this moment in which these new trends impact our lives and where it seems we are already at a point of no return.
