This week, Juan Luis Pavon, Editor-in-Chief of Diario de Sevilla and coordinator of the Social Media Management courses at Pablo de Olavide University, where I teach, sent me a very interesting email;
His email was an invitation to the “Wikileaks and 21st-century journalism” meeting, which will take place on April 11 and 12, 2011 at the Casa de la Provincia; as you know, I am interested in how communication is changing, and especially journalism in this century. The meeting is being held at the University of Seville and aims to address several interesting topics, such as:
- How communication, public opinion, and the relationship between power and citizens are being shaped today—from power, from secrecy, from propaganda, and from transparency.
- What role journalism plays in a society that also has the capacity to inform.
- How the regulation and enforcement of rights and freedoms are changing.
Cross-cutting issues that go far beyond the mere evolution of journalism companies, because they concern the pillars of the social, political, and legal order.
The meeting features around a dozen top-level speakers in Spain, with very diverse experience and specializations, to enrich attendees through analysis of new technologies, social psychology, political communication, citizens’ use of social networks, investigative journalism, new media, etc.
