Yahoo Hack Alert! Indeed, this morning we woke up to the news that Yahoo had been hacked in 2014 and was only now reporting it (hundreds of millions of accounts and their respective contents had been leaked).

Special attention for users of: Yahoo, Flickr, or those who have accounts in directories, buy-and-sell pages… linked to this Yahoo email address.

All right, so what do we do now? 

We will implement the protection protocol for a hacked digital identity, especially for the post-hack period.

1. Change the password for your Yahoo email account.
2. Link your mobile phone number to your Yahoo account.
3. Enable two-factor verification if you have not already enabled it.
4. Change the passwords for all accounts that were using the same password as your hacked Yahoo account.
5. On the devices where you access your Yahoo account, enter the new password and the verification code.

Important recommendations:

1. If you did not have Google Alerts set up for your email, you will now realise how useful they are… so now, create a Google Alert for your Yahoo email address.
2. Search for your email on Google, in quotation marks, for example: “fulanito@yahoo.es”
3. If your email address appears, automatically request the removal of the content from the web.
